Second Chance at Life is proud to provide financial assistance to individuals pre- or post-transplant through one of our three assistance programs. We also provide funding to the emergency funds at Transplant Centers throughout Michigan.
Second Chance at Life’s Prescription Drug Financial Assistance Program provides Michigan transplantation patients that have limited income and resources with needed funding for life saving medications. Second Chance at Life currently caps each applicant’s subsidy to $1,000/lifetime.
Each applicant is pre-screened by a social worker at one of Michigan’s transplant hospitals. Once the completed application is received by Second Chance at Life’s secretary, it is summarized and sent out, via e-mail, to the members of the voting committee for review and assessment. Each member of the voting committee independently reviews the information, comes to a funding decision—full, partial, none—and submits his/her vote to the Secretary for tallying. Once all of the votes are counted, the outcome with the most votes is final. The paperwork is forwarded to the Treasurer, who either processes a check to the requested payee or informs the social worker that the application for funding has been denied.
Since 2009, Second Chance at Life has approved 34 prescription drug subsidies totaling $29,000.
