Genentech works every day to develop medications that help transplant patients maintain a healthy life post-surgery. They’ve also generously sponsored Second Chance at Life’s fundraising events for the past several years. This year, we’re grateful they’ve deepened their financial commitment by donating $5,000 to our general fund. This generous gift bolsters our grant-making ability and allows us to provide direct support to even more transplant patients. In addition, they’ve continued their sponsorship of our bowling and golf events for 2013, helping us offset event costs so that the money raised can go where it’s needed most – our grantees. Thank you, Genentech!

- Heart Transplant
- Kidney and Pancreas Transplant
- Liver Transplant
- Lung Transplant
- Cornea Transplant
- Bone Marrow Transplant (Blood and Marrow Transplant Program)
Our goal is to maintain our tradition of excellence in transplant medicine. We have seen transplantation progress from an experimental, risky procedure to a successful medical therapy. The University of Michigan Transplant Center is committed to cutting-edge research that will benefit today's patient and the patients of the future. We are dedicated to leadership in the development of innovative techniques, to improvement in the quality of life for organ transplant recipients, to education programs related to transplantation, and to enhanced organ donation awareness aimed at improving the availability of organs.
The Henry Ford Transplant Institute has long been recognized as a leader in Michigan in transplantation of the heart, lung, liver, kidney, pancreas, and bone marrow. In 2010, we became the first and only center in Michigan to perform intestine and multivisceral transplantation. Our specialized transplant teams deliver personalized service to our patients and their families in a caring environment. We hope to deliver care we would want for ourselves and our families.
Each organ transplant team at Henry Ford Hospital uses advanced minimally invasive and robotic surgical technology for living donors and transplant patients. This means our surgeons use robots and keyhole-sized incisions for transplant surgeries when appropriate for the patient, making recovery much easier. We offer ongoing clinical trials, including new medications to help delay the need for organ transplant, as well as new medications to improve patient outcomes after transplant by aiming to reduce infection and organ rejection.
Established in 2004, the Michigan Donor Family Council (MDFC) consists of donor families, transplant recipients, Gift of Life, and Michigan Eye-Bank employees, all of whom have first-hand experience with eye, tissue, and organ donation. These donor families made a decision during a tremendously sorrowful time in their lives, in order to save and enhance the lives of others, by donating their loved ones organs. The MDFC dedicates their time and resources to support donor families and the transplant community, as well as engage in public speaking events to encourage others to consider organ donation. The MDFC is a non-profit organization with a 501(c)3 designation.
